Emma Briggs

Activist writer

Sometimes writing comes first and sometimes it’s activism. Often they overlap.

"In such an ugly time the true protest is beauty."

- Phil Ochs

From sailing the seas on Greenpeace ships, locking herself to various pieces of infrastructure to block fossil fuel ¬†production, hanging a banner from the top of the Sydney Opera House to disrupting traffic with Extinction Rebellion, Emma Briggs has spent around twenty years defending our planet with her body. Now she also uses her words to bring new minds into humanity’s fight for our survival. Through poetry, stories and essays, she imagines how we can arrive in the kind of beautiful future where we would all like to live.¬†
