Emma Briggs
Activist writer
Sometimes the poetry of life comes first and sometimes it’s changing the world. Often they overlap.

"In such an ugly time the true protest is beauty."
- Phil Ochs
Emma Briggs has spent around twenty years physically defending our planet. From sailing the seas on Greenpeace ships to locking herself to various pieces of fossil fuel infrastructure, hanging a banner from the top of the Sydney Opera House to disrupting traffic with Extinction Rebellion, she’s put her body on the line to protect our collective home.
A few years ago she decided to also use her words to bring new minds into humanity’s fight for our survival. Through poetry, fiction and essays, she imagines how we can arrive in the kind of beautiful future where all beings might choose to live.
Emma divides her time between writing, grassroots activism in her local region around Byron Bay, NSW and part-time work with a hang-gliding instructor.
